Roller ShadesRoller shades are simple flat fabric roll-up shades operated by spring roller, beaded chain & clutch or motorization. While most popular for covering large windows with solar screening materials, roll shades are being used more frequently for any size window where a simple covering is desired (often combined with drapery panels or fabric toppers). There are many fabric choices from sheers to room darkening. Shade material can “cup” at the sides – most notably with lighter weight materials and long lengths.

Roman ShadesRoman shades come in a wide variety of natural and synthetic fabrics. The least expensive Roman shades tend to be unlined polyester or synthetic blends in flat panel or teardrop styles. “Drapery Shop” Romans have more hand work and command a much higher price, but you can choose linings and select from a much wider array of fabrics and design styles. Roman shades are sometimes ordered as decorative top treatments over cellular shades or blinds. Hunter Douglas makes an innovative lined Roman style shade called the “Vignette” that has the unique feature of retracting inside of a fabric covered headrail.
